What is smartphone?

In the wide range of cell phones available in the present market, some phones have the facility for just dialing and receiving a call and sending and receiving short messages only while some cell phones have facilities like Bluetooth, Java enabled operating system & applications, web browser etc. Now some cell phones with operating system upgraded to advanced technology just like that of computers or laptops, are released into the market. These cell phones are nothing but called as Smartphone. First smartphone was called as Simon. Simon was designed by IBM Company in 1992. It became available in the market from 1993.
In the Simon phone, along with the facilities and applications provided with in the phone, some more extra facilities like calendar, address book, clock showing the time anywhere in the world, calculator, notepad, e-mail facility, FAX facility, games and many more applications were provided. Using stylus, phone numbers can be dialed on the touch screen. Comparing to the present Smartphone, Simon may have less features. But it was a wonderful invention in 1990.
