Reason for not marching on the bridge | Vibrations are produced and bridge may collapse when marching is done on it

marchingWhen any object is hit, it vibrates and produces sound. There are two types of vibrations produced. One is natural one and second one is forced vibration. When any object is placed side of vibrating one, then the second object starts vibrating due to forced vibrations produced in it. It is called as translation when the frequencies of the objects are equal. When soldiers march on the bridge, vibrations are produced on the bridge and they are called as forced vibrations. If the forced vibration frequency and bridge frequency are same, then vibrations on the bridge increase which leads to destruction of bridge. So marching is prevented on bridges.
