Christ-The-Redeemer Statue |Christ-The-Redeemer is one of the World’s Seven Wonders

There is one big hill and a tallest pedestal on the edge of it. On that a big Christ statue was present with stretched hands. This is the tallest statue made in the art deco process. This is one of the seven wonders announced recently. This is on a hill in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The height of that hill is 2296 feet and on that approximately 30 feet pedestal and above that approximately 100 feet statue. The width of this statue is 98 feet. This statue is visible from a distance of hundred kilometers also. The name of this statue is “Christ-the redeemer”.

The statue has acquired such a popularity that it is been remembered if heard Brazil name. This statue is being made stronger and is being coated substances that are apt for the weather there. In recent times there was a big cyclone in Brazil.  Many trees and buildings collapsed but nothing happened to this statue. The reason is that the soap stone material used for the outer coating had safe guarded the statue from thunders and lightening. But due to heavy rains it is damaged at some places, hence this renovation.

The idea of constructing a huge Christ statue was there from 1850. But the then princess Isabel did not show any interest at that time. Again in 1921 the trails were started. So many samples were seen and finally stretched hands model was selected. The reason is to tell the God will have   love towards all. After that donations were collected from people and the construction began. It took nine years for construction and was completed in year 1931. The weight of this statue is 700 tons. The cost of construction is above Rs.11 crores. This has secured a place in Seven Wonders of the World announced on 7th July 2007.

Which is the Biggest Man-Made Lake in the World?

Which is the Biggest Man-Made Lake in the World?

Lake Volta is the largest reservoir by surface area in the world, and the fourth largest one by water volume. This is not a natural a lake but a manmade lake. Volta Lake is located completely within the country of Ghana in the African continent. The Volta Lake is regarded as one of the biggest lakes in the world which is in the fourth position, though it is a big reservoir when compared to its area. Ghana country is in the hands of British rule in the past. Ghana is the first country who became free and bagged independence from the chains of the British rule in the African continent. Volta River is one of the important and famous rivers in the world. As the Volta Lake is arranged next to this river, this river became famous as Volta Lake in course of time.

The Volta Lake is arranged in the area which is near to the banks of Akasombo River which is constructed by joining the Black Volta Lake and White Volta Lake. The Akosombo Dam which is also referred to as the Akosombo Hydroelectric Project is a hydroelectric dam of the Volta River in southeastern Ghana in the Akosombo gorge and part of the Volta River Authority. The Akosombo Dam was called “the largest single investment in the economic development plans of Ghana. Hydro electricity is prepared using the water that is there in the Akasombo dam.

The construction of the Volta Lake is started in 1961 and completed in the year 1965. But when this Lake is constructed, around 78 thousand of people and two laks of animals are transferred to other areas. Around 120 houses are demolished for the construction of the Volta Lake leaving the small houses. The power which is produced from this Lake is been transported to many countries and places. On the other hand, this power is been exported to the nearby countries and is gaining the export charges which is a profit for the project. The Volta Lake is also useful for the transportation. Many fishermen are making their livelihood by fishing the fishes in the Volta Lake. Finally, the Volta Lake is not only a supplier of power to other countries but also livinghood for the fishermen.

Why Smoke comes from Mouth in Mornings of Winter Season?

Why Smoke comes from Mouth in Mornings of Winter Season?

Actually it is not the smoke that comes from mouth in the mornings. Moreover smoke does not come in every morning. Only in winter season that too when the climate is too cold, smoke comes from the mouth when the person speaks. When we speak, we undergo exhalation process in the breathing technique. That means along with the words, air comes out through the mouth from lungs. In any season, temperature inside the body of human being would be stable at 98.4 degrees Fahrenheit i.e. thirty seven degrees centigrade. In winter season, the air that comes out of our mouth would contain water vapor. Since the temperature outside the body is extreme colder, much of the water vapor present in it transforms from gaseous form into liquid form. In that process, particles of water vapor transform into a rain of tiny water droplets. When sunlight falls on those water droplets, it gets scattered in all directions. Hence it appears as smoke coming from mouth. The same is the reason for the smoke appearing to be coming from an ice piece and smoke appearing back to the jet plane in its path.

How Do Humans Identify Smells?

How Do Humans Identify Smells?

Smells

Smells

Human beings can identify much number of smells through nose easily. But there are only four hundred receptor cells in the nose through which   smells are identified. Receptor cells contain proteins capable of absorbing the particles related to a specific smell. No separate receptor cells exist for each kind of smell. For example, there will be no separate receptors for identifying the smell of Rose flower or Lilly flower. Only those limited number of receptor cells present in the nose are used to identify all types of smells. The main reason for the capability of identifying such many number of smells through such limited number of receptors in nose is due to the presence of cells related to nerves. Each cell responds to huge number of smells. But there is difference in the intensities of responding to each flavor. Human being can come to the decision of recognition of a smell based on the cells which respond to that flavor specially and intensity of the flavor received particularly. For example, when the Rose flower is smelled, a group of responding cells in the nose gets stimulated. Those impulses are sent to the brain at the specific related portion in its front end. Based on these impulse responses, brain would understand the smell of Rose flower. Now presently many scientists are doing research regarding the smelling phenomenon and recognition by brain through Brain Scanning Method.

Till now, scientists have discovered a total number of 2,900 species of snakes in the world excluding in Antarctica. Barbados Thread Snake is the smallest snake in the world. It belongs to the family of Leptotyphlopidae.  Snakes of this family are commonly called as Slender Blind Snakes or Blind Snakes. Barbados Thread snake is scientifically known as Lesser Antillean Thread Snake. This snake is as small and as thin as pencil lead. It is just eleven centimeters long. These smallest snakes live in the Caribbean seas of West Indies. These small thread snakes have no significant predators there. Hence these snakes live comfortably in the forests of West Indies. But scientists are warning that due to the increasing population and deforestation, thread snakes are facing the danger and threat of extinction.

How Was Vaccine for Smallpox Discovered?

How Was Vaccine for Smallpox Discovered?

Before inventing the vaccine for preventing smallpox, it showed dreadful influence on the people in every part of the world. In eighteenth century,   one among every ten children of France and Sweden suffered from smallpox. In this context, a Britain doctor named Edward Jenner decided to invent the medicine for curing the smallpox disease at any cost. As a part of fulfilling his ambition, he started studying, observing and analyzing the various aspects of smallpox disease.

While doing experiments on the smallpox disease, Edward Jenner came to know a surprising and curious fact about it. He came to know that people who were working in the poultries of cattle breeding in his town are not affected by the smallpox at all. Similar to the smallpox disease for human beings, cows get affected by cowpox disease. That cowpox disease would affect the people working in the poultry of cows and would be cured later. Jenner came to know the fact that the persons who got affected by cowpox are not at all getting affected by smallpox disease. There by Jenner understood that the actual medicine for the smallpox disease affecting the human beings lies in cowpox.

To know the truth behind these facts, Jenner chose a youngster named James Phips for experimenting on smallpox disease on him to find out the curing medicine. Jenner made a wound on the hand of James Phips and applied virus fluid taken from the cowpox. As a result, James got affected with cowpox and was cured later. After the complete recovery of James, Jenner followed the same procedure of making wounds and injected the virus fluid taken from smallpox wounds into him exactly after the time period of forty eight days. As expected by the Jenner, James was not affected by the smallpox disease. Then scientists understood what to do to prevent the smallpox disease. Based on this experiment, scientists have invented the vaccine for smallpox disease.

We know that there will be a large variety of small and big fishes in the world.  Scientists have discovered that Paedocypris progenetica specimen fish is the smallest fish in the world. It is the smallest creature of all the vertebrates in the world. It is just 7.9 millimeters long. It is such a small fish that its length is not even one third of an inch. This fish is discovered in the swamps of Sumatra in Indonesia. Being transparent, this fish looks like larva. This fish lives only in the water in tea brown. Water in which these fishes will live has hundred times more acidic nature than that of rain water. Animal scientist Ralf Britz belonging to Natural History Museum in London has discovered this smallest fish. He told that the fish is extremely wonderful out of all fishes he has seen in his career.

Edward Jenner Saved Many Lives | Edward Jenner Invented Vaccine to Smallpox

Edward JennerOnce upon a time when the word smallpox disease was heard, a sudden and intense fear ran through the people in all parts of the world. It is because, one among the three who got infected with it used to die. In that way, in a time gap of hundred years from 1700 to 1800 more than six crores of people died of smallpox all over the world. But now, that smallpox disease is not at all seen anywhere in the world. This is because of the strenuous efforts in the experimental research of a great scientist regarding the prevention of smallpox disease. And that scientist is none other than Edward Jenner. He was a Britain scientist. He was very well known as the saver of many lives in the World.

Edward Jenner was born on 17th May in 1749 to a clergyman. From childhood, he developed keen interest and curiosity towards the Doctor profession. In those days to become a doctor, there is facility to get trained from an elderly doctor. In that way, at the age of fourteen Edward Jenner got trained and practiced for more than eight years from a surgeon. After getting the degree in medicine as a doctor, Jenner moved to his native village and took up the doctor profession to service the poor.

Edward Jenner observed the increasing intensity of smallpox disease in those days. Then he decided to invent the medicine for preventing the smallpox disease. He started studying, analyzing the smallpox disease with careful observations. Similar to the smallpox for human beings, there is cowpox disease among cows. Cowpox disease affects the workers in the poultries of cows. Cowpox is not dreadful disease like smallpox disease. Moreover, Jenner observed that those cattle breeding workers who are affected with cowpox are not getting affected with smallpox. Then he understood that the actual medicine for smallpox lies in the cowpox disease. Jenner started doing experiments with some healthy persons. With their permission, Jenner injected the a little fluid taken from cowpox into the cuts made on the person’s hands. After getting cured from cowpox, the same person is injected now with smallpox virus. To his surprise, those injected persons were not affected by smallpox. Then he declared the results of his experiments to public and explained clearly. As a result of his experiments, today a little cowpox virus fluid is injected at the time of birth as a vaccine to prevent smallpox disease. Hence the person becomes sterile to smallpox disease.

Edward Jenner was awarded with the title KNIGHT by British Parliament for his contribution towards the prevention of smallpox disease. Oxford University offered prestigious doctorate to Jenner. Russian Czar offered a gold ring to him as gift. France Dictator, Napoleon ordered every one of his nation to inject the vaccine of smallpox disease. American government offered many awards and gifts to Edward Jenner.

Seshachalam Bio-diversity Forests | Many Varieties of Plants, Animals Found In Seshachalam Forests

Recently, the Seshachalam hills in Eastern Ghats located in Kadapa and Chittoor are declared as bio-diversity reserve forests. These forests which are extended 4,775 square kilometers are covered with hills, waterfalls and lands. People can see many varieties of trees in these forests and they are the home of many plants like sandal and other herbs which are getting extinct. Reserved forests are very important in Andhra Pradesh as the agriculture and globalization are reducing the forests.  These are important for protection and enhanced management of villages around the forests.
