Rainfall is nothing but the form of water droplets coming from the clouds from the sky to the Earth. But not all the rain reaches Earth. Only some percentage of rain reach ground as water drops and the other percentage of rain get evaporated due to hot wind within air before reaching the ground. This portion of rain which gets evaporated before reaching Earth is called VIRGA. This phenomenon is seen frequently in areas of high temperature and hot climate. In Latin language, virga meant a branch of a tree. But in meteorology, this VIRGA is the short form for Variable Intensity Rain Gradient Aloft. VIRGA is one of the reasons behind the visibility of several colors when Sun is setting.
