Scientists discovered new species which do not require oxygen | Loricifera family species live at extreme bottom of sea

Loricifera family Every living being on the Earth needs oxygen. It is generally taken that, no animal can live without oxygen. But recently scientists have discovered new species of living organisms which don’t require oxygen to live.

All know that the animals on the Earth or the sea animals cannot live without oxygen. Till now scientists were with an opinion that only single celled organisms and some viruses can live without oxygen. But recently scientists have discovered three new species of living organisms which doesn’t require oxygen. They were surprised by knowing that fact. That too these species are multicellular organisms.

Scientists of Italy have discovered these new species of living organisms from the bottom of Mediterranean Ocean, where oxygen is not available. Although these are multicellular organisms, they are of small size only. They are smaller than a millimeter in length. They look like a jellyfish.

It is difficult for multicellular organisms to live without oxygen. Generally, there exists Mitochondria structure in the cells which is helpful in the process of producing the energy from the oxygen inhaled and the food taken. But in these new species, there are structures called Hydrogenosome in the place of Mitochondria structures. These hydrogenosome are able to produce the energy without the requirement of oxygen. Scientists have explained that this is reason for the ability of new species of living organisms to live even in the absence of oxygen. Also, scientists have discovered eggs in the wombs of two species out of three species discovered. Scientists have separated the eggs and kept them in the area where oxygen is unavailable. Then also those eggs hatched successfully.

Newly found species are not named till now. Scientists have identified that they belong to the family of Loricifera. These species of animals live at the extreme bottom of the sea, by digging pits in the earth. Even though the discovery of their existence is found recently, scientists are saying that these species have been existing from 60 crore years. That means even before the evolution of present sea animals, these species have been existing. At that time oxygen was unavailable on the earth. Later content of oxygen in the earth’s atmosphere was increased. Later oxygen became available abundantly in the seas also. Depending on that oxygen, many animals were evolved later.
