Reason for the animal eyes to shine in the dark | Reflection of light results in shining of the eyes

Reflection of light Eyes of the animals like cat, dog, cows etc shine in the dark due to the headlights of the vehicles. This method is used by the people in the forests to protect themselves from the furious animals by detecting them at far distances. There are some reasons for the shining of the eyes of animals but eyes of the human beings won’t shine. Eyes of the animals are not self illuminated and they shine only due to the reflection of light from the headlights or thunder strikes. There is a special crystalline layer inside the eye ball in many types of animals and it is having the property to reflect the light. This crystalline layer is not present in the eyes of humans. The nerves in crystalline layer will help the animals like owls and cats to see in the dark. The color of reflected light depends on red blood cells in the eyes. When there are more red blood cells, the light reflects in red color and when the number of red blood cells in the eyes is less, then light reflects in white color. The shining of the eyes depends on number of red blood cells and crystalline layer.
