MarmotSquirrels are common creatures.  But there is a squirrel which is as big as a mongoose.  A creature which belongs to squirrels species is called Marmot.  This weighs around two and half kg and looks beautiful with fur all over its body.

One special characteristic of Marmot is they can whistle. They use loud whistles to alert other Marmots to protect them from predators.  They live on green grass, tree roots and some varieties of flowers.  Marmots live in burrows.  Marmots dig tunnels of a few meters length.  Marmots even use secret tunnels to escape from predators.  Nails of marmots are very sharp and are very useful to dig burrows.  Sometimes other creatures like foxes occupy the burrows dig by marmots.

There are 14 various species of Marmots.  These live for 10 years.  These can be found in the mountain areas of North America. Marmots can also be found in India in Ladakh.

In winter they go in to hibernation.  Marmots keep eating all through summer and they go into the burrows and take rest during the winter season.  Marmots use the fat in their body and live through the winter season. They come out of the burrows by the next summer.  Marmots also preserve food in their burrows to use the food during winter season.

While playing Marmots throw their hands at each other just like in boxing.  They greet each other by touching their noses.
