What does the mane of a lion symbolize? | Dark and thick mane indicates that the lion is healthy

mane of a lionWhat does the mane of a lion symbolize? Lion’s name reminds us of its mane.  Nobody can imagine a lion without its mane.  Female lions do not have this mane.  Only male lions have the mane.  Lion looks bigger in size because of this mane.  Mane is the most distinctive characteristic of lion. This aids the lion during confrontations with other lions or animals.  The colour of the mane, the size, genes and development of the body depends on the production of Hormone called Testosterone.  This hormone is not present in the cubs of lions and so they does not have mane.  Mane grows as the cubs grow.

Dark and thick mane indicates that the lion is healthy.  Female lions mate with the male lions which has more mane. Male lion with dark coloured mane has more reproduction capacity.

According to a research done in Tanzania, it is observed that there is a chance to know which lion is going to win in the competition with the length of the mane.
