Machu Picchu is situated at a height of 7,000 feet. There are around 200 huge constructions. This is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Machu Picchu was discovered a century back.
At least 2,500 tourists visit this place which is situated at a height 7,000 feet. Machu Picchu is also famous with the name ‘The Lost City’. This city was built in the 15th century and was not known to the world for nearly 500 years. A historian informed about this city in 1911 and many amazing truths have been revealed.
Machu Picchu means ‘Ancient Mountain’. This is situated in Peru, South America at a height of 7,970 meters. More than 200 buildings built in stone can be found here. Forts, palaces, temples, houses, parks and roads can also be seen. All these buildings are made with a type of granite rocks found on the hill. Any material like cement is not used in the construction of these buildings. These frames are arranged so accurately that even a grass cannot be inserted between them. Engineers of today also are surprised with the construction skills of those days. It is also a wonder that how could they lift such a huge stones.
Water supply system in Machu Picchu is another wonder. Many small pits were dug on the hill and the water in them was supplied to each house. Agriculture lands are also found on the hill.
Historians say that this was built by the ‘Inca’ rulers in 1400 AD. But it is a mystery that why this was built. Some say that it is built for the Gods; some say that it is built for the ceremonies of kings and another version is that it was built as an observatory. The big stone pillar which is a part of the Sun temple is another wonder. Shadow of this pillar cannot be seen on 21st March and 21st September. On all the other days arrangements are made to know the time and date using the shadow of the pillar. This small kingdom could survive only for 100 years. It is said that all the people of this city dies due to smallpox.
