Leonardo da Vinci spent first five years of his life with his mother. Then he had to live with his father. Loneliness taught him the art of drawing. Keen observation laid foundation for a bright future. He became a rare painter and a great researcher.
Leonardo da Vinci was a multi talented person. Perhaps he was the only most diversely talented person. His name reminds one of the famous paintings Monalisa and Last Supper. Most of the people know him as an artist. But he was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer.
Leonardo da Vinci was the first man to draw the models of Parachute, Helicopter, aero plane, machine gun, swinging bridge, paddle boat, motor car etc. He was the inventor of scissors, hydraulic pump, bicycle etc. He converted the theoretical studies to experimental science.
Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15th April, 1452 in the Vinci village near Florence, Italy. He used to draw pictures from a very young age. He was the illegitimate child of the village head and a peasant woman. He lived with his mother for the first five years of his life and then lived in the house hold of his father, grandparents. Leonardo studied Greek, Latin, Mathematics and anatomy. He created a silver lyre in the shape of a horse’s head. Recognizing his talent the then ruler of Milan, Duke gave him a job. He designed buildings, Drainage systems etc. He painted the inner parts of the body when he saw some operations being conducted. When he was in France he drew the models of submarines and diving suits. Leonardo compiled his 5000 inventions in a book. He wanted to keep his inventions a secret and so wrote them in the script of reflections in the mirror.
He invented many models of a meter to measure the velocity of air, a clock which runs with the help of weights, Odometer, jockey to lift heavy weights, screw cutting machine, water pumps, calculator etc. He also explained earth quakes, movement of plate tectonics, methods to utilize solar energy, the reason why sun flower always turns to sun etc.
