Ivan PavlovHe is the scientist who proved that coordination between mind and body are important for the smooth running of out body systems.  His name is Ivan Pavlov.

When we are walking on the road we turn our head or jump when a loud sound is heard beside us.  This is a quick reflex.  We do not even think of what the sound is or is there a danger because of it.  When dust is raised we close our eyes.  There are called reflexes.  Ivan Pavlov studied these reflexes and determined the theory of Conditional Reflex.  He belonged to Russia.  He also proved through experiments how digestion takes place in various stages.  He was awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in 1904.

Ivan Pavlov was born on 14th September, 184 at Ryazan village in Central Russia.  He was educated first at the church school but he has developed interest in Science.  While he was in St.Petersburg University, he read a book ‘The reflexes of Brain’.  This book interested him and he joined medicine at Military Medical Academy.  He established a research center at St. Petersburg.  Here he proved the relation between digestive system and nervous system.  To prove this he did his research on dogs and observed what was happening in the digestive system of them.

When human beings smell, taste of think of food, saliva is secreted into the mouth form salivary glands.  Does this happen because of the brain or the body was the subject of Ivan Pavlov’s research.  He kept a dog in a room and he used to feed it after making a sound of bell.  After some days the dog started secreting saliva from mouth with the sound of the bell.  After conducting many experiments like this, he announced that secretion of saliva with the sight of food is because of the brains reaction and it is purely psychological property.  This is called the Conditioned Reflex.

Experiments and research of Ivan Pavlov are still useful in controlling human behaviour and also bring changes in the behaviour of children.  Russia President Lenin was a great admirer of Ivan Pavlov.  He received many awards including the Nobel Prize.
