bacteriaWhat is the importance of bacteria in our life? We consider bacteria as harmful to us.  But not all the bacteria are harmful.  Some of them help not only human beings but also animals and plants directly or indirectly.

Bacteria act on dead bodies of animal and plants and help the proteins to be absorbed by the soil.  Some bacteria are present in the intestine of the animals.  These bacteria are helpful in digesting the food taken by the animals.  If these bacteria are not present the animals cannot digest Cellulose.

Some other bacteria help in formation of some food substances.  These are required to make curd, buttermilk and cheese.  Bacteria play an important role in fermentation.  Many industries are using bacteria to manufacture various substances.

Nitrogen is required by the plants for growth.  Plants cannot utilize the nitrogen absorbed from the atmosphere.  The nitrogen has to be converted in to nitrogen salts.  Some types of bacteria convert Nitrogen into Nitrates. Some more bacteria take up the responsibility of providing Nitrogen present in the air to the plant.

Bacteria are helpful in many other things like manufacturing alcohol, medicines and fertilizers.
